Dolphin Data Centre
The Dolphin Group has committed to establishing a world-class data centre facility in East Kew in 1999. This data centre facility is fully managed with 24x7 monitoring that offers Service Level Agreements ("SLAs") pursuant to uptime and stability for today’s business applications and hardware.
Telehousing or Co-location ("Telehousing") is the provision of space for a customer's IT equipment, servers, computers, IT and Telecommunications equipment within a secure dedicated service provider's premises. Dolphin specialises in supplying the very best Telehousing in a secure and safe infrastructure -- with power, connectivity and fire protection to the highest standards. We offer a range of value-added services such as technical support, data backup, storage, monitoring and firewall security systems.

Our team of qualified engineers manages the data centre. These engineers have a range of core competencies including, but not limited to, Microsoft Windows Server, MSSQL Enterprise Server, Oracle, Linux, Unix, MYSQL plus a range of web & Internet technologies. This expertise enables us to effectively offer a complete in-house service to our customers.
Power
Initial power is supplied in the form of 3 phases from the main power grid and substation within the building, the Data Centre power is independent of the rest of the buildings power needs.
The data centre is protected by fully redundant UPS systems with all power being conditioned through these units prior to reaching the racks, power requirements are further backed up by a CAT diesel generator offering 6 hours of operation without re-fuelling including the facility to be refilled by mini tanker 24x7x7.
Connectivity
Cisco border routers are used on site for communications redundancy allowing for maximum performance and reliability and advanced BGP routing capability, our equipment is able to route through our ISP connection without any drop outs normally expected should there be any connection interruptions. Bandwidth is provided to our data centre by dual fibre connections into the primary Melbourne hub at 525 Collins Street. Our primary fibre is an unmanaged gigabit grey fibre provided by UeComm and capable of delivering up to 1000 Mbps to our facility. Our redundant fibre is also managed by UeComm, running through their Box Hill hub, and terminated as ethernet. This is therefore capable of delivering up to 100Mbps. Dolphin manages 32 full Class C IP ranges, and these IP's are available to data centre customers on a per project basis.
Smoke Detection
As a further safety precaution a VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Alarm) fire detection system is in place in the data centre and this is capable of detecting particles per million in air quality within the data centre environment.
Climate Control
Dolphin uses climate control systems to ensure our data centre temperature stays within 1 degree Celsius of perfect operating temperature. These systems are separate to the office climate control.
Security
Dolphin data centre is located on the second floor of our 700 High Street East Kew premises; this ensures protection from flooding and ram-raiding.
Security sensor detectors are throughout the building and connected directly to a security company for immediate response.
Security to the data centre is both physical and logical and is on separate electronic key tags
The physical security layers are as follows.
Access keys limit physical access to the facility and all services within the data centre are separate from the services used in the main office environment which has restricted after hours access, all entry points to the premises require security cards.
Access to the Dolphin offices via security card is required and provides a second level of security.
A third level of security must be traversed to allow access to the pre-stage room and data centre.
Any third party requiring access to the data centre must be escorted at all times; Dolphin makes every allowance for our clients to gain access with minimal notification during business hours
These services have been recently strengthened with both Dolphin and our client’s accreditation to access the Federal Police data base from a Server within our Data Centre
The logical security layers are as follows.
Firewall Devices
Utilizing stateful packet inspection on the flow of traffic passing through the device, this includes both inbound and outbound data packets.
All firewall traffic is logged to an external server, and as required alerts are generated to notify technical staff of suspicious activity so the appropriate action can be taken.
Intrusion Prevention
Intrusion prevention is used to detect and block spoofing, SYN flood attacks, port scanning etc. The intrusion prevention system works by comparing traffic patterns against known patterns of attack. When a match occurs, the source IP address is immediately blocked by the firewall. Alerts are generated that notify technical staff of the suspicious activity so the appropriate action can be taken.
Encryption
All remote management tasks performed on the servers are done so via encrypted connections to limit the risk of sensitive information being gathered via packet sniffing techniques.
Software
All non essential services or daemons are disabled to limit the number of open ports to the Servers, regular auditing of servers is maintained to assess software vulnerabilities and perform patching or software updates where applicable. Intrusion detection software is installed on the server to notify technical staff of changes to system files.
Back Up – File Based
The data selected for a backup is determined by the client; up to 2GB of data is allocated per server with back ups either daily or weekly. There is a cost involved with backups that are chosen by the client which may need special requirements like external tape units or USB HDD or devices being taken off site each day
Tapes are stored in a fireproof safe in the data centre, if required these tapes can be made available to the client or a 3rd party for storage off site.
Note: Files in use on Windows systems cannot be backed up, it is suggested that applications such as MSSQL back up to the local file system and these backup files are then backed up to the remote servers.
Disaster Recovery Services
Dolphin has the ability to provide a client with DR this type of recovery strategy is available thru our DR team which provide our professional scoping services
Service Availability
Due to our expertise, knowledge, and know-how, Dolphin can give uptimes of 99.7%. Uptime is defined as connectivity to the Internet at the switch that the server is connected to. In the event of any downtime Dolphin will provide an incident report as with any scheduled maintenance or data centre services
Server, Firewall and Network Monitoring
Dolphin offers 24 x 7 monitoring at a server or port level if any higher level of support is needed. Please refer to the section below for costs associated with this service.
Response Times
A response time is defined as the time between Dolphin technical staff being notified of an issue and work on the reported issue commencing.
The start of the response time is NOT the time at which a client phoned or sent an email describing the problem, but the time at which Dolphin technical staff are made aware of the issue.
Response times 8:30am and 5:30pm weekdays are two (2) hours.
Weekends, after hours & public holidays response times are four (4) hours.
Logging Reports
Dolphin’s clients are expected to log onto the Dolphin Web Site homepage for support and log a support ticket. If this is not possible then a call to our 1300 663 452 is necessary to leave a message.
Passwords
Dolphin does not keep clients passwords due to confidentiality laws regarding access to client’s equipment. Dolphin does not log onto a clients server or web site. Dolphin monitors client equipment and can only restart/reboot on the clients say so.
